You are standing in the Donggung precinct of Changdeokgung Palace, an area associated with the crown prince.

At the heart of the palace stood the king.

But beside him, there was also a life devoted to preparing for the king who would come next.

Not yet a king. But someone who would one day have to become one.

Seongjeonggak: A Crown Prince’s Day —One Step at a Time, Becoming King follows this long period of preparation.

At Seongjeonggak, you will encounter the seoyeon, formal lessons in which the crown prince studied face to face with his tutors.

At Gwanmulheon, you can experience other forms of learning that extended beyond the written page.

And for this exhibition, you may also step inside Huiuru, a pavilion whose interior is not normally open to visitors.

This is not a story about life after becoming king.

It is a story about becoming one.
